My Invincibility Was Shaken

As many of you know, it snowed on Palm Sunday.
Instead of hating, I am doing my best to enjoy the mountains coated in white.

Yesterday I went to Covington to do some stuff for the paper. 
I'd barely left the driveway (that Pastor Steve plowed so Lala and I could do our errands), and I decided I wanted to stop and take a picture.  Pulling over, it dawned on me that I might not be able to get out of the snow.  I did, without taking out a mailbox or two!

After dinner last night, Trey, Bella, and I went traipsing (my current favorite word to describe what we did) through the snow.  I wore my yellow wellies.  Wellies are supposed to be water proof.  To show off my invincibility, I stood in the creek.  I had the sensation of cold water running over my feet.  At first I wondered if I was just feeling the cold through the rubber.  Then I realized, water was leaking into my boots through the awesome zipper.

No longer do I feel quite as invincible.

Trey and Bella had quite the wrestling match.  Actually, if we are friends on Facebook, you should look at the pictures very quickly to get the full affect.

All in all, a beautiful time.
It ended in tranquilly walking home.
Trey and I drank hot chocolate.
And I baked cookies.
Chocolate chip cookies.

What Month Is It, Again?

Palm Sunday
The 4th day of Spring
.....
and it's snowing

It started just before one, and now, at one minute till six, we have about four inches of snow.
It's not falling anymore, though.

Initially, I was upset by the snow.  But, after a reminder from Daddy, I decided to just enjoy it--forgetting that date.  So, I shall make some hot chocolate in a few minutes, and maybe do some writing or reading.

I've folded some laundry, wasted time online, and froze my feet for a minute to take pictures.
(This morning at church, our speaker, Chip, made two subtle Duck Dynasty references.  I practiced self-control and didn't tweet about it till after church ended.)

Dear Friday, No school.  Lots of snow on the ground.  My week did not go according to my plan (big surprise, right?).

It Finally, Truly Snowed

The BC Snow Storm 2013 arrived last night, resulting in no school today or tomorrow.

Since I part of the family, I was given the task of folding laundry.
I made a laundry wall around myself.
I Skyped with Kristy and Marie.
Then, we sat around and watched a good movie (it got me crying at the end).

This afternoon, Trey and I went and played in the snow.
It seemed only right to make a snow man...since there is 10" of snow on the ground.
Oh, don't worry, we threw snow balls at each other (and last night, too)!

I'm a experiencing a little cabin fever......
But, I'll get over it.

The Time I Planned to be Snowed In

I've been MIA for a few days.  I planned to spend a few days in Bath County, and then I learned snow was expected.  So, I packed extra clothes and decided it was a good time to be snowed in.

Usually when people see the snow has started, they postpone, right?  Well, not me.
I hurried my packing, stuck my stuff in the car, and carefully headed over the mountain, driving into a winter wonderland.

I drank peppermint hot chocolate in the coffee shop while talking with Amanda and watching the snow float to the ground.  Then, fishtailed while hoping to not flail into the fence when the road was not clear, had a cozy night in with Mrs. Shaver--that continued to the next day.  I enjoyed the Fellowship of Christian Athlete's Super Bowl party (and watched some of the game) and good conversation about education, philosophy, and religion.  Monday I subbed for PE and got to drive Trey to school and take him home : )  His basketball team whooped the other team.  Tuesday I hung out at Laura's Boutique and later watched BCHS JV and Varsity teams beat Craig County....which was awesome.  And, I got to see some friends!

Today I surfaced to real life.  I have more reporting jobs coming up : )  Very excited to cover some pageants!

These next few months look promising, exciting, fun, and a chance to spend time with people I love.

Dear Friday, I was supposed to sub today....and then it snowed.  YAY SNOW DAY!

Dear February, Welcome.  It's crazy that we are already a month into 2013.

Dear Weather, You tantalized me with Spring and then snatched it away.  I don't mind too much...but a good foot of snow would be appreciated!

Dear Town Council Meetings, You provide some chuckles for me.

Dear Small Town Living, Seriously, you make me want to write a book.  Maybe one day.

Dear Friday, I'm so glad you've arrived!  It is my last day of work.
Dear Weekend, girls time with Jamison in C-ville!  It's been a while since we've hung out.

God's Surprise Present!

Yesterday I heard the news that we were supposed to get 1-3 inches of snow tonight.  However, this is South Caroline...not Virginia.  How often do we get snow?  This is #2 (a few flurries don't count).  Actually, this is BIG snow #1!  When it started snowing it was not even sticking to the ground, however, after about 45 minutes or so after it started it was beginning to stick to the cars and the grass!!! I pulled out my Christmas music and prepared to celebrate until it was time to go to work.  The coolest thing was the first song that started to play was Hallelujah by Mannheim Steamroller.  This song is Christmas to me. How perfect!
I left for work around five wearing my pink wellies (rainboots) and was walking with my tongue out to catch those snowflakes!  Funny thing was other people were too...we must have been a sight!  Well, work was exciting because excitement and snow were in the air!  Everyone seemed more happy, excited, joyful...you fill in the blank : )
When I left the cafeteria I was just watching people pelt each other with snowballs...then, suddenly, someone saw me and decided to hit me.  So, I threw a few and then headed back to my room because I was expecting guests.  Amanda was helping me host, so we prepared and then our guests arrived.  Members of our college group.  We sat around and sipped hot chocolate and ate cookies.  Well, we were planning on playing a game so off I went to Founders to request a specific game where I was told it was in the owners car.  Well, I was not wearing shoes, my socks had already gotten wet so I thought, whatever, so, I ran through the snow.  Needless to say, my feet were a tad bit chilled when I got back in.  Well, in we started on the game.  We played for a while and then decided to partake in the fun of the CIU Snowball Fight of 2010.  It was well worth it!  I can already feel the aches and pain coming on  but there is something so wonderful about sharing these memories with so many other people!  I just love them and the memories so much!
Throughout the fight I kept noticing the trees and how perfectly the snow outline them....it was breathtakingly beautiful! How often do you see Palmettos with snow on them?  Practically never!  Well, we did!  They looked like hut roofs!
When we came back to the dorm the exhaustion started setting in....then the soreness....the headache still remains...but Ibuprofen is helpful and I LOVE God's surprises!!!
I love being surprised by Him!  Earlier I was so frustrated because I had so many emotions welling up inside about the snow and how joyous I was about its arrival and I could not find the words to express how I felt...I still can't.  It reminded me of a conversation I just had with my roommate about speaking in tongues.  Speaking in tongues is expressing worship from the heart when no earthly words will do.  I think I just wanted something like that to happen to me today so I could express my feelings and thanksgiving and joy!
I love where I am, I love the people I am with, and I love my God who placed me here!!!
Now, my eyes will hardly hold themselves open any longer.
